Reviews: Portsmouth Goat

Not what we had planned for that day, but glad the plans changed.
We live in NH. We planned on heading to Kittery to eat at Bobs. Parking lot was jammed and no way, so we said the heck with it and headed into Portsmouth. We parked and started walking around. Did not even see The Goat on our TA list. Bottom line, before you read more, we are not sure why this isn’t top ten in Portsmouth. It should be.

Fun atmosphere (unless you aren’t a proud American). Painted American flag on the wall. Country music and a great selection of mostly American bourbons and whiskeys. Local beers… really, what more could you ask for?

Great food – Check
Superior service – Check
Reasonable prices – Check
Great atmosphere – Check
Great air-conditioning (it was a sweltering 95 degrees outside that day) – Check on that, too.

Our server (excellent) recommended the burgers (all are available either burger, grilled chicken, fried chicken or some veggie thing (not our style). She recommended the fried chicken and holy crap, was that awesome! It was actually a bit comical watching my wife try to hold the “burger”. It was twice the size of the bun. Both of our choices were perfectly prepared. Mine was the BLT “burger” and hers was the Goat Thunder “burger”. You have to get the “Tumbleweeds”. Fried onion rings sliced super thin, battered and fried crispy. Delish!

So, our day did not start out as planned, but at the end of the day, we could not have had a better lunch experience. We will be back. BrokenBoatBob

A deal on yummy burgers? Yes please!
A co-worker let me in on the amazing burger deal that The Goat offers on Mondays and Tuesdays (2 for 1 Burgers All Day) so I couldn’t wait to take the family. Teenagers can put away a lot of food so I will happily follow a deal that fills all of us up. We’ve driven past The Goat (literally once a day) since they opened but never ventured in. Wow ~ have we been missing out! We arrived around 6 pm and easily got a table for 5. Lots of TVs and country music playing in the background and a cool looking bar. The poutine (made with beef gravy) and buffalo cauliflower got the party started as far as we were concerned. The blue cheese that accompanies the buffalo cauliflower is yummy and we were happy to see our order come with celery and carrot sticks. We all got different burgers. If you look at the menu~ the options are extensive and interesting and if you aren’t into that ~ you can build your own burger. We decided to go with these ~ the SmokeShow, the Black & Bleu, the Surfing Cowboy, the Brisket and…hmmmm…what was the last one? If he had even offered me one bite I would have some memory of that burger but it must have been that good since he didn’t share. Honestly, what kind of place offers peanut butter and/or pineapple on your burger? This place ~ hooray! There are options to go with the burgers ~ tator tots, French fries, pasta salad and then even more options to trick out your fries/tots ~ firehouse, melty cheese, truffle parmesan, bacon cheese and nacho average. We went on a “school night” so I would love to go back on a Friday or Saturday night ~ it looks like it would be fun and we can’t wait to try a drunken frappe (or two) with a bucket of bacon (or two)! Since it was our first visit, Molly was patient and she took good care of us. See you at The Goat! AlyceM

Wow
Perhaps the BEST breakfast, certainly the BEST Bloody Mary I have ever had. Great energetic atmosphere. Well worth a visit! JoesephH

Delicious Gastro Pub!
We got the Nachos with Pulled Pork, the BLT Burger and the Goat Melt. The Nachos were GINORMOUS and contained layer upon layer of cheese! Yum! My husbands Goat Melt was one of his top 5 burgers in his life he said, which says A LOT! Great staff and great meal. IRMoving

Sports bar Diner
I say sports bar diner because you can get breakfast all day. The wait staff was very good. She was nice and helpful. We had never been before and she was very patient. The one tough part is there is so much to choose from it makes it hard to decide. The place was hopping busy and the service was not rushed which I appreciated. We all got burgers and they were cooked perfectly. The onion rings were delish and the cocktails were awesome. Highly recommend. DanP

Great breakfast and fun place to eat.
This place had great food and a friendly wait staff. We visited St. Pat’s Morning Sunday 2019. Bartenders were having a ball at 9am and they made a great Irish Coffee. Lots of room and a comfortable place to eat. ThomasF

FUN!
This is the place to good for a good meal and fun. A western theme bar with excellent brews, food, and dessert. This was a birthday celebration with all ages attending. Appetizers of a “bacon Bowl”, well, how good is that! We all had burgers that were delicious! This a place with bar noise and not intimate but a fun and delicious for all ages! The milkshake cocktail dessert was outstanding!!!! Hallie46

Loved it!
Looking for a great casual Gastro pub like atmosphere? Want a cold beer and a tasty burger? Thank go to THE GOAT! I have walked by it a few times in the past few months when I’m visiting Portsmouth, NH. It looks lively at night. This visit was for lunch on a Tuesday. After shopping in Kittery, we went to downtown Portsmouth for some lunch. I was so happy we finally tried The Goat. Huge Drink menu – from beer to mixed drinks to bourbon/whisky. Specialty Burgers galore. Awesome fried pickles!!! I can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed it. Next time we go it’s going to be a nighttime visit. They have live bands. I can’t wait!!! We live in Hampton and couldn’t get in at our Goat due to everybody at Hampton Beach wanting some Goat Goodness. After being on the ocean fishing for 5 hours we were damn “hanngry”! So we passed 2 other bwefasssst spots to drive to The Goat in Portsmouth! Bucket of Bacon, Eggs , Sausage, Home Fries, Hot Buttery Toast! Washed down with Custom Bloody Mary’s! Best breakfast in the Seacoast and Beyond! Hollah!
